One of our favorite teacher gifts is back: the 2017 Children’s Book Week poster and gifts!
One of my very favorite teacher gifts is here! The 2017 Children’s Book Week poster, and all the fun accompanying gifts. Each year, this is one of my go-to gifts for the special teachers or librarians who have fostered a love of reading in my kids.
And I couldn’t be more excited that one of my very favorite illustrators, Christian Robinson (whose work you may know from Last Stop on Market Street or Josephine or Gaston), designed this year’s poster. Yay!
I love knowing that my purchase of these gifts each year helps support Every Child a Reader, the non-profit who organizes Children’s Book Week (which is May 1–7 this year) and helps promote literacy in kids every week of the year.

What is especially notable this year, is that the 2017 poster celebrates minority kids in literature — which, as you probably know, are vastly underrepresented in our kids’ books.
So go grab a mug, tote bag, t-shirt or any other gift for those special teachers you love, and grab one for yourself while you’re at it. Because, supporting kids’ reading is a great excuse to spend a little more any time of the year.

Updated to add: I’ve been really happy with the t-shirts and other gifts I’ve ordered from Zazzle in the past, but the Children’s Book Week tote bags I just purchased for my kids’ teachers were a real disappointment — the thin cotton fabric made it look more like a freebie than a relatively expensive gift. Check the materials closer than I did before you order.
I never thought twice about diapering my son with the eco-not-so-conscious disposable diaper. I have to admit, I thought that cloth diapers were still big cotton towels that required safety pins, manual dexterity, and a whole lot of free time.
Don’t get any sick ideas, dear readers. We’ve all seen our share of those softies and we certainly don’t need a stuffed one of THOSE laying around the house.
When my 3 year old was a newborn we planned a trip to Europe and before I could say auf viedersehn, my brain pictured all the filthy traveling potties we would encounter while changing her diaper.
