5 great new Netflix, Amazon, and Hulu shows and movies to binge watch with your kids starting this month
Recently, I’ve been looking for new streaming children’s shows that I can watch with my son, to help change things up in a bit. (Because a tiny, diapered Alec Baldwin is only funny for so long, and having hit the 500th screening of Boss Baby I can assure you I’m well past it.) So I’ve looked into all the new shows that have hit Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Hulu this month to find some stand-outs.
While they may never replace Moana in my heart (fingers crossed she’ll come back to Netflix someday!), I think these shows will keep your family happily entertained during cold weekend nights indoors.

Captain Underpants – Season 2
I’ll admit I never expected to like a show that revolves around men’s undergarments, but it turns out I am a total sucker for this silly, surprisingly well-written series based on the popular Captain Underpants series of books on Netflix. It’s packed with just as many poop jokes and uh, explosions, as hidden just-for-parents comedic gems, like when Harold and George discover a random fish in the middle of a quest to find the stinky sock monster (“A red herring? That was misleading and confusing!”). I can’t wait to see what these pals get up to in Season 2.

If You Give a Mouse a Cookie – Season 1, Part 3
Teaching kids about cause and effect since 1985, the classic children’s book If You Give a Mouse a Cookie comes to life now as an animated series on Amazon. If you want a wholesome new show to watch with your younger kids, you’ll be happy to see new episodes of this series becoming available this later month. I love that the style of the animation matches the book illustrations I grew up with.

Tangled
While Moana is gone for now, you can get your Disney fix with the newly added Tangled on Hulu if you have the Starz add-on. This retelling of the classic fairy tale features a much more independent and curious Rapunzel than the original, thank goodness. I think it’s a great movie for kids who love princesses but want to see one with some agency and smarts.

Cars 2
As the mom of a 2-year-old boy, I have memorized almost every line of this movie, which is why I can recommend it. It’s a part racing movie and part international spy thriller, plus a heavy dose of the usual Lightning McQueen charm. This film, also on Hulu with the Starz add-on, also gives Mater a little more of the spotlight, as opposed to Cars 1 and 3, so you can expect more a higher laughs-per-minute ratio too.
I never thought twice about diapering my son with the eco-not-so-conscious disposable diaper. I have to admit, I thought that cloth diapers were still big cotton towels that required safety pins, manual dexterity, and a whole lot of free time.
Don’t get any sick ideas, dear readers. We’ve all seen our share of those softies and we certainly don’t need a stuffed one of THOSE laying around the house.
When my 3 year old was a newborn we planned a trip to Europe and before I could say auf viedersehn, my brain pictured all the filthy traveling potties we would encounter while changing her diaper.
